Wine 5.02 is a new "stable" release for the Long Term Support distributions using the stable branch of the Wine Is Not An Emulator translation layer for running Windows software on other operating systems. This release brings a total of 46 fixes for a whole range of games and applications including Hype The Time Quest, Age of empires II, Bad Mojo Redux, the Rockstar Games Launcher, Dark Souls 2, iTunes and many more. Most of the improvements in the latest Wine 4.14 development release are not present but that does not mean it is not a welcome upgrade for those using distributions shipping the stable Wine branch.

Many of the interesting changes to the latest Wine 5.14 development release are not present in the "stable" 5.02 release. The new Direct3D 9-11 Vulkan translation layer is not included, those using the stable branch will have to live with wined3d using OpenGL until the next major release. That is not a huge loss, the wined3d Vulkan translation layer is not feature-complete and it is not all that useful as of the latest Wine 5.14 development release.

The source code for Wine 5.02 can be acquired from mirrors.ibiblio.org/wine/source/5.0/. Compiling it yourself is probably not worth it since it is a very big compile, you might as well wait until your favorite LTS distribution adds it to their repositories. More bleeding-edge distributions like Manjaro, Arch and Fedora use the "unstable" development branch which isn't all that "unstable", it is actually more stable than the "stable" branch since it includes many bigger fixes that are not included in this "stable" Wine 5.02 release.
