The Secret Chronicles of Dr. M. (TSC) is a free software 2D jump and run side-scroller game with great graphics. It is written using SFML and OpenGL. The code-base is based on the Secret Maryo Chronicles Super Mario clone. The graphics, music and the plot is mostly not, TSC is an original game with its own charm.

The Secret Chronicles of Dr. M. is free software licensed under the GNU GPL v3. It is available for Linux and Windows.

TSC version 2.1.0 RC1 was released on April 2nd, 2020.

Graphics and Gameplay

The Secret Chronicles of Dr. M. is a typical jump and run sidescroller.

The Secret Chronicles of Dr. M. is a typical jump (s and run (a) sidescroller platform game. There are monsters to avoid and obstacles to get by. The monsters will kill you if you do not avoid them or kill them by jumping on their heads.

The games graphics looks great for what it is. The games characters look cute and cartoon-like. The graphics are not impressive if you compared it to a modern 3D first person shooter. It is really good and well-done for a game like this.

The game mechanics are similar to the "Secret Maryo Chronicles" Super Mario clone the game was forked from. The graphics looks somewhat similar but not identical. The levels are original with little similarity to Secret Maryo Chronicles and Super Mario.

Verdict And Conclusion

The Secret Chronicles of Dr. M. is a fun 2D sidescroller with great graphics. It is worth a try if you have time to play games and you like these kind of old-school games.

Installation

Windows users can get prebuilt binaries from secretchronicles.org/en/download/. Packages for Ubuntu and Debian can also be acquired from that page.

GNU/Linux users using other distributions will have to compile and install it from source. TSC uses cmake for the build configuration. It has a fair amount of dependencies. The INSTALL.md file lists the dependencies. You will have no problem compiling and installing TSC if you are a wizard and/or know what cmake is. The latest source code can be acquired from github.com/Secretchronicles/TSC/releases.
