LinuxReviews:About
LinuxReviews is a site dedicated to bringing you free software news and reviews, in-depth HOWTOs and guides, and other educational material for Linux laptop and desktop users, system administrators and others with an interest in computers and computer technology.
LinuxReviews was founded by Öyvind Sæther as a hobby-project in 2004. It has since not really grown to become much more than that, it remains a small hobby-project with a handful of loyal readers and a small amount of contributors who contribute for the fun of it on a hobby-basis 15+ years on.
Öyvind Sæther is currently in the metal fabrication sector and the rest of the team is mostly working in sectors like farming, dog grooming and similar other non-IT profession. All the authors share a passion for free software, and that is just about all they have in common. It would be nice if we were able to employ at least one person in a part-time (or ideally full-time) position, but that's just not possible as long as the income generated by this website remains so low that it barely covers the server costs. This is also why we primarily cover software, not hardware which we would have to buy with funds that do not exist.

"Digital content is to a large degree funded by advertising, which means that rather than paying for services with money, companies monetize our behavior, attention and personal data. In order to maximize the potential revenue for advertisers, online advertising is becoming increasingly individualized and tailored to specific groups or individuals. Most of us carry our smartphones around at all times, which has opened up new possibilities for marketers to grab our attention and influence how we act at any moment. In order to create and serve accurate and relevant advertising and create personalized digital environments, this individualization depends on knowing as much about each one of us as possible."

We use Google AdSense to serve advertisements. Google AdSense will, of allowed, set browser cookies for the purpose of serving personalized cookies. See our Privacy policy for further details.
The advertisement revenue generated by the minority of our readers who do not use an ad-blocker like the excellent Ublock Origin web browser plug-in is very small. The occasional once-in-a-decade donations we get are rare and typically very small. We greatly appreciate every single donation even if they don't add up to much.
We will remove all advertising from this site if/when donations match the revenue generated by the advertisement spots on this site. It wouldn't that much given how few of our actually see the advertisements..
Please consider making a donation if you find this sites contents to be of value to you.
