Igor Sysoev
Igor Vladimirovich Sysoev (Russian: Игорь Владимирович Сысоев), born September 28th, 1970, is a Russian software engineer notable for writing the very efficient nginx web server.
Sysoev graduated from Bauman Moscow State Technical University in 1994. He worked as a system administrator for the Russian search engine firm Rambler from 2000 to 2011. He created the nginx time in his spare time while he was working there. The nginx manual manual page[1] states that "Development of nginx started in 2002, with the first public release on October 4, 2004.". Susoev left Rambler and founded his own company NGINX, Inc. in 2011. That company was bought out by a company called F5 Networks in 2019. Igor Vladimirovich Sysoev is currently employed by that company.
Igor Vladimirovich Sysoev was arrested by the Russian authorities on the behest of his former employer Ramlber Group in December 2019. Rambler claims they hold the Copyright to NGINX because Sysoev was employed there when he wrote it in his off-hours.
