Newnet is a year 1998 supertiny IRC network simply on UnrealIRCd, famous for blocking all Tor servers, including middlemen. The interesting about this is that these middlemen servers can not be used to connect to the Newnet IRC network, however, it does mean that operators of Tor middlemen servers can not connect to Newnet themselves (if that made any sense).

This ’fame’ is pretty meaningless since these days, everybody blocks anybody. If security is what you're after, use Bitmessage or sth. similar. IRC is inherently insecure, even as a few servers provide TLS 1.3 now.
