Evolution is a personal information management suite designed for the GNOME 3 desktop.

Disable popups

Evolution displays very annoying "notifications" when new mail arrives. This can not be disabled from the GNOME settings. It could be disabled there before, but that feature has been removed. The reason is that customization and features are considered a bad thing by the GNOME 3 designers who feel that they know best and they think everybody should get annoyed by these crappy pop-ups.

It is still possible to disable evolution mail pop-ups using gconf:

  • gconf-editor /apps/evolution/eplugin/mail-notification/
  • Remove checkbox next to status-notification (Does not apply to 3.2.x)
  • Remove checkbox next to dbus-enabled
