Delta Color Compression (DCC) is a lossless compression for 3D rendering. It is used by Mesa drivers to reduce the amount of bandwidth needed to send textures and other data between the CPU and the GPU over the PCIe bus.

The #dri-devel gang talks about it all the time. It is, apparently, very important for performance.
