Like other premium iRobot models (including the top choice) they utilize smart mapping technology to create detailed floor plans and avoid common obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also have carpet boost which boosts the robot's power when it spots a lot of dirt on the carpet in order to get it clean quickly.

Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our floor tests that test for bare floors, and they're particularly adept in cleaning pet hair. There are some issues, however, that prevent them from being our top choice. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to getting hung up on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera to look around corners.

It's still a good value, especially if your office or home has a lot of unfinished floors and you want to save some money. It's also extremely quiet and operates when you're at work or in school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on very well and can't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. If you want to, you can switch the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into an elegant, compact package. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient in taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also has a self-emptying dustbin as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, but it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This top-performing combination vacuum and mop uses advanced sensor technology to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste, and it also learns your home's layout over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. You can change its cleaning schedule and customize zones with the well-designed app. Its battery life is average compared to similar models.

You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mop and extend them when in a carpeted area to prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm is perfect for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. It doesn't offer the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Professional+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests, X30 Ultra was the most efficient robot vacuum/mop which could clean an entire home with just 66 percent of its battery remaining. It also did a great job cleaning a variety of floors and rooms that had various flooring types, such as certain area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line and it swiftly eluded fake dog socks, turds, and bundles of cables.

It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically fills up its base, and supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature that we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

The robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba model than the bulky models of the rivals. It's one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also its smartest. It comes with advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's also the only robot vacuum/mop to score a perfect 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to the combination of modern sensors, including a restructured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.

Like other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, with an intuitive mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This could be a problem in mornings before work, or at night when you are trying to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive, although it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally capable and more attractive. This is a two-in-one vacuum that is very efficient however it will cost you more and create more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot mop and vacuum. It has a range of advanced features that make you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes care of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multifunction dock that automatically empty the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and detect obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.

The vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also has an attribute known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house depending on how dirty the areas are.

If you have a larger home, you should consider selecting a model with a spot or zone cleaning mode. This lets you tell the robot which area of your home needs to be cleaned with the help of an app or voice command. If you have a lot of furniture, a stairway mode is also useful. For families that are busy, a recharge function and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to resume where it left off could be very useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you might think from its price. It does a stellar job vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad that uses a reciprocating motion, which cleans better than most of the other mop cleaners for robots we've tested. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying base that can be washed.

The iRobot app is designed to guide you through the mapping process that collects data on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, plan the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritize your most filthy rooms to ensure better performance. The app also gives access to a variety of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, which means it can get to corners and under furniture more easily. It has a powerful 8000 Pascal suction as well as sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean that will thoroughly clean a specific area.
