YouTube

YouTube is a corporate video platform for traditional big-media TV channels and content produced by YouTube and it's parent company Alphabet. It used to be a platform for small and independent content creators. This gradually changed with big and popular but controversial content creators as well as smaller creators being suppressed, censored and in many cases forced off the platform from about 2017 to 2020. The move from being a platform where the "You" in "YouTube" meant something to a traditional TV on the Internet entertainment platform was hugely successful financially, YouTube's revenue doubled between 2017 and 2019.

Growth and Profitability

YouTube's owner Alphabet folded YouTube's revenue numbers in with Google's until February 2020 when they, for the first time, released isolated numbers for YouTube.

YouTube generated $15.1 billion in ad revenue in fiscal year 2019 with $4.7 billion of that coming in Q4 2019.

YouTube generated $8.15 billion in revenue in 2017 followed by $11.15 billion in 2018. YouTube's revenue nearly doubled between 2017 and 2019.

Alphabet did not disclose YouTube's operating costs.

YouTube's numbers for 2019 are impressive but they are not huge in the context of their parent company's revenue. Alphabet's revenue for fiscal year 2019, which includes YouTube, was $161.8 billion.

Google bought YouTube for $1.65 billion in 2006.

Gradual transition from being an outlet for independent creators to a fascist propaganda outlet

This short 20 minute documentary created July 2019 titled "YouTube Censorship" features many former YouTube-creators who detail the gradual transition from a website where the You in the name YouTube meant something into a site which promotes big media companies and silences everyone else:

Political bias and censorship

Project Veritas released a video titled Google Insider Blows Whistle and Exec Reveals Google Plan to Prevent "Trump situation" in 2020 on Hidden Cam in July 2019. The video was uploaded to YouTube as well as other sites and was promptly censored everywhere but BitChute. It is mostly about Google's censorship of their search-engine. The last 5 minutes are about censorship of certain content creators on YouTube.

Congressman Louie Gohmert had this to say about the following expose:

"This video shows Google’s biases are now a threat to a free and fair election, all while they hide behind the immunity given by Congress years ago when they were supposed to be a simple ‘town square’ where everyone’s voice could be heard without biased results. In fact, Google references a significant role they see themselves fulfilling in the 2020 elections. This discovery should set off alarm bells throughout the country. It is no secret that Google has a political agenda. Multiple brave tech insiders have stepped forward and exposed Google’s censorship of content and specialized algorithms. This media giant’s ‘social justice narrative’ should distress all Americans who value a free and open society. Google should not be deciding whether content is important or trivial and they most assuredly should not be meddling in our election process. They need their immunity stripped and to be properly pursued by class action lawsuits by those they have knowingly harmed."

Congressman Louie Gohmert in a statement[1] on June 24th, 2019
