WebTorrent is a peer to peer protocol which is very similar to BitTorrent. It is similar but not compatible; regular BitTorrent clients are not able to download content from video sites like BitChute which use WebTorrent to distribute the video content.

Youtube-dl is able to download videos from BitChute and PeerTube instances and other sites which use WebTorrent to distribute videos.

The most commonly used WebTorrent client is written in JavaScript. It can be hosted as part of websites making it an ideal way to offload some bandwidth costs to users when hosting a popular video website.
