Proton 5.0-1 Is Released With Wine 5.0, DXVK 1.5.4 and FAudio 20.02
The latest version of Valve's Wine bundle for Steam has Wine 5.0, DXVK 1.5.4, FAudio 20.02 and better compatibility with games using the Denuvo "anti-piracy" scheme in this release. Wine 5.0 has a lot of improvements, including proper multi-monitor support, which should make a lot of Windows games in Steam's rather large games catalog run better and smoother.

Proton, or "Steam Play", is what Valve calls their Wine bundle. It is, essentially, just Wine bundled with some optional packages which improves Wine.
Proton 5.0-1 is, like the name implies, based on Wine 5.0 which was released last month. Additionally, DXVK has been updated to version 1.5.4 and FAudio is updated to version 20.02 in this release. FAudio 20.02 has some improvements which should make Windows games sound better, specially those that are a few years old.
This version uses DXVK for Direct3D 9 in addition to Direct3D 10 and 11. Those who do not have Vulkan can still use OpenGL to play Direct3D 9 games by configuring PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1.
There is also better Steam integration in Proton 5.0-1. The release notes mention that this makes more games using the Denuvo "anti-piracy" scheme playable.
Proton is called "Steam Play" in the Steam client. It can be activated in the Steam client under ▸ ▸ . Proton can also be used without Steam but it is mostly pointless, you will get the same experience if you install Wine, DXVK and libFAudio from your distribution's repositories on most distributions. The source for Proton 5.0-1 is available at Proton's github releases page if you really want to compile it yourself.
