Some distributions, namely Ubuntu, are still shipping it and applying minor fixed to ensure that it keep compiling with newer libraries. Any actual development has stalled.
Kazam Screencaster has a homepage at launchpad.net/kazam where it would be possible to see if someone comes along and re-starts development.
SimpleScreenRecorder and OBS Studio are alternatives worth considering if you are looking for still-maintained screencasting software.
