Munich claims to have saved 4M EUR by switching to Linux

Mayor Ude reported that the city of Munich has saved over 4 million EURO by switching from Windows NT and Office to Linux and OpenOffice.

The new Linux-based IT infrastructure has helped reduce the number of trouble tickets from 70 to 46 per month.

The saving are huge, 2.8M EUR from software licensing alone and 1.2M EUR from hardware because Linux demands way less hardware-wise compared to Wintendo 7.
