Fedora Core 3 available for x86 and x86-64

The new version features the 2.6.9 Linux kernel, the windowing system Xorg 6.8.1, the desktops GNOME 2.8 and KDE 3.3.0, uses GCC 3.4 and has full support for the secure SELinux standard.

Fedora is a very stable Linux distribution ideal for distribution servers. The new release brings much new software, but focuses much on new desktop software.

Gnome 2.8 and KDE 3.3.0 are both great desktop environments. A standard installation comes with thousands of free programs you can use in any of these desktops, like the Office Suite OpenOffice.org and the graphics suite Gimp.

Could you please delay the release by 30 minutes? No way! . The final release oddly included the old KDE version 3.3.0. Update packages for KDE 3.3.1 were made available by Than Ngo only 30 minutes after Bill Nottingham announced Fedora Core 3. This forces every Fedora user who prefers the KDE desktop environment over Gnome to download and upgrade a series of packages. Updates for the packages initscripts, hotplug and ipsec-tools were also released a quarter after the final version.

Fedora uses the RPM software package format. APT is optionally available.

  How Can I Get Fedora Core 3?
  
          Fedora Core 3 x86 or x86-64 Downloads are available from:
          http://fedora.redhat.com/download/ or from the network of
          mirrors in the Fedora Project distribution system. Users may
          prefer to download Fedora Core via BitTorrent, or via older
          file retrieval protocols such as HTTP, FTP, or RSYNC.
  
          BitTorrent typically provides faster download speeds than
          HTTP, FTP, or RSYNC.
