Gaim 0.80 is released. Drag and drop is greatly improved, third party software support is better and it now uses the GTK+ 2.4 file dialog.

Typing notification for the Zephur protocol is also added along with status messages for Gadu-Gadu. Status notification is improved by adding parentheses to conversations with off line and parted users.

Gaim is a very popular IM client made to fit the Gnome desktop environment (it also works with other window managers, like fluxbox. The new version was released 2004-07-15 and is now part of Gentoo Portage (ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge gaim). Packages are available for Fedora Core 1 and 2, Redhat 8, 9 and 10, and Mandrake 9.x and 10. Gaim is also available for Windows, currently 0.79 is the latest for that plattform.

You can now send files while in a conversation by drag and drop.

The previous version added better support for Yahoo!, long awaited MSN file transfer support and ability to drag and drop images into the Modify Account dialog. Gaim also supports AIM file transfer.

The new file dialog (hopefully you will see this in more GTK+ programs soon)
